Hudson is a laid-back Gulf-coast community at the western edge of Pasco County, where canals wind toward the water and the fishing has been a way of life for generations. It is a place shaped by the sea.

Hudson traces its roots to 1878, when settler Isaac Hudson moved his family to this quiet stretch of coastal Pasco County and allowed a post office to be established in his home. The little settlement was first known as Hudson's Landing, and early residents made their living by fishing, farming, and harvesting salt from the Gulf.
In the early 1900s the town grew around the timber trade, and later, in the 1950s, developers dug canals from the coast and used the fill to raise land for new waterfront neighborhoods.
Hudson has never been an incorporated city. It is an unincorporated community and census-designated place, governed as part of Pasco County rather than by a city government of its own.
That has helped it keep an easygoing, no-frills character. Hudson remains a working coastal community where boats, docks, and open water are part of daily life.
Hudson Beach is the local gathering spot, a small Gulf-front beach with waterfront restaurants where people watch the sunset and boats come and go. Anglers launch from the many canals and channels that thread through the area.
Nearby SunWest Park has become a popular destination, offering a spring-fed swimming lagoon, a sandy beach, water sports, and inflatable water play for families. Between the beach, the boating, and the Gulf breezes, Hudson delivers relaxed coastal living.
Hudson has long been a favorite for those who want to live near the water without the crowds of Florida's bigger beach towns. Waterfront homes line the canals, and it is common to see residents heading out at dawn to fish or crab in the shallow Gulf flats.
The community keeps a friendly, small-town feel, with local seafood spots, a fishing pier, and easy access to the wider Nature Coast. For many, that simple rhythm of sun, water, and neighborly quiet is exactly the appeal of Hudson.
