Tucked into Florida's Nature Coast, Spring Hill is a warm, family-oriented community and the largest population center in Hernando County. It blends everyday small-town living with easy access to some of the state's most beautiful springs and coastline.

How Spring Hill Came to Be

Spring Hill was born as a planned community in 1967, when the Deltona Corporation and the Mackle brothers purchased more than 21,000 acres of rolling Hernando County land and opened the development to eager buyers. The master plan set aside room for schools, churches, parks, and businesses, and the first lots sold out within just a few years as families moved south for the sunshine and affordable homes.

The name itself is older than the modern town. "Spring Hill" appeared on local maps as far back as the 1850s, a nod to the gentle hills and clear springs that define this stretch of the Nature Coast.

A Community, Not an Incorporated City

It surprises many newcomers to learn that Spring Hill is not an incorporated city. It is an unincorporated community and census-designated place, which means it has no city hall or mayor of its own. Instead, services and government come through Hernando County.

That status has never held the area back. Spring Hill has grown into the county's largest community, with a strong network of neighbors, congregations, and local organizations that give it the feel of a real hometown.

Things to Do

Spring Hill sits right next to Weeki Wachee Springs, home of the world-famous live mermaid shows, and it is a short drive to the Gulf, state parks, and paddling trails. Locals enjoy fishing, kayaking, golfing, and simply spending time outdoors in a climate that stays warm nearly year-round.

Everyday life here is easy and unhurried, with familiar shops, community events, and quiet neighborhoods. It is the kind of place where the pace leaves room to breathe, and where the natural beauty of the Nature Coast is always close at hand.

A Place to Land

Because it grew as a planned community, Spring Hill has wide, orderly streets and plenty of parks, ballfields, and green space woven between its neighborhoods. Weeki Wachee Preserve and the nearby coastal marshes offer trails, wildlife, and quiet water for those who like to explore.

For many families, that mix of affordability, sunshine, and access to nature is exactly what draws them here. Spring Hill has room to grow into a slower, steadier rhythm of life, close to both the Gulf and the springs that give the region its name.
